Collage: Perception
Kunstvilla Nuremberg
2014
computer program, projection
120 × 90 cm
At the Kunstvilla’s opening exhibition, an object in constant change was placed between the paintings on display. A computer program randomly selected images from the paintings catalogued in the collection and projected them onto the wall. The photographs, originally made for documentation, appeared for varying lengths of time. Both duration and sequence were determined by chance. In rapid succession, the images seemed to merge. Fragments visible for only a blink came to the fore and remained in memory; other details went unnoticed and faded into a diffuse veil of colour. Each painting was seen through the images that had preceded it. Perception proved highly subjective.
