Brassica napus 3

AdBK Nuremberg, annual exhibition

2013

rape seed, rape oil, yellow paint, wood

Cloth soaked in rapeseed oil reaching from the ceiling to the floor narrows the space to a slender passage and creates the feeling of trepidation. The observer intuitively steps back from the oily and sticky surface. Due to the situation of the narrow transit and the carelessness of the visitor, the pile of rapeseeds was scattered over the floor in the course of the exhibition. Thus its surface became more and more insecure.

The yellow color painted on the wooden board shows the rape fields of a section in Germany and therefore illustrates the huge amount of space required. However, rape does not only need space, rape also requires vast amounts of water and nutrients. The idea occurs that even renewable resources are not inexhaustible goods that are able to produce energy out of nothing for all eternity.
